outcome: success!!!
i went to a few thrift stores and found a frame for $3.99, ran to my local ace hardware for some painters tape and chalkboard paint ($1.29 and $5.49, respectively), and used a paper bag from home. this was quick, easy and overall mess-free!

Dang girl. LOVE IT. I wouldn't change anything about the frame (at least via photo)!
